Raymond "Red" Reddington (James Spader), one of the FBI's most wanted fugitives, surrenders at FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C. The episode begins with Rebekah (Claire Holt) waking up inside the filthy, decrepit Fleur-de-Lis Sanitarium. She’s groggy, disoriented, and to be quite frank, a bit cranky. (We would be too if someone kidnapped us and then forced us to sleep on dusty, stained sheets. Ew! #BedBugs.) Judging by the 1919 flashback glimpse of the hospital in its former state, Bex seems to recognize the place but doesn’t really have the energy to stroll down memory lane, especially when it happens to be full of influenza patients hacking up blood and guts. Rebekah then hears a creak and immediately vamp speeds her way outside but the werewolf venom coursing through her veins impedes her efforts. While she catches her breath, Genevieve (Elyse Levesque) pops up and introduces her to Mr. Pointy. “Rebekah, tell me you’re not leaving already,” the luscious redhead witch says, while driving the stake through Rebekah and watching her collapse. “I thought we might reminisce.”

Genevieve then drags Rebekah back to the sanitarium. As she hums a little ditty, she carefully crushes some herbs with a stone mortar (sadly she’s not making guacamole) and then sprinkles in a frew drops of her blood. Rebekah, who’s sprawled on a cot with a stake protruding from her stomach, demands to know what the bitch is doing, but Genevieve simply chastises her for spending time with slutty werewolf hunks and for being a traitor. You know, normal, lovely chit-chat amongst all friends. Interestingly enough, these two broads were actually besties once upon a time. We then flashback to 1919 and see Rebekah volunteering as a nurse. Some guy coughs blood all over her fresh, white apron and she consoles him with her cringeworthy impeccable bedside manner. “There there unidentified sick man.” She calls out to a nearby redhead nurse — Genevieve — to assist her and Genevieve offers the man an herbal remedy.

Bex then introduces herself by accusing G-lady of being a witch and Genevieve points out it’s funny to see a vampire wearing a nurse’s uniform. “Please darling, I’m an Original vampire,” Rebekah corrects her.  She adds, “And if my city is under attack by this nasty influenza, it is my duty to volunteer. Besides, if this entire lot dies, who’d be left to eat?” Genevieve laughs and responds, “You’re wicked.” Rebekah, who’s taking a liking to this sassy lady, then invites her out for a night full of jazz and debauchery on Basin Street and Genevieve accepts. The two angels of mercy instantly hit it off and a friendship is forged.

Meanwhile at the local cemetery, a group of witches gather to consecrate Sophie Deveraux. Elijah (Daniel Gillies) crashes the festivities and takes a few of them out. “My siblings,” he says, as he rolls up his sleeves like any fellow who’s ready to get down and dirty. “Where are they are?” He threatens to level the place if he doesn’t start hearing some answers. Monique Devearaux (Yasmine Al Bustami), who’s there to pay her respects like any proper murderer, isn’t intimidated by the powerful vampire though. She simply holds out her hand and offers him a magical party favor, courtesy of Celeste. ”To find what you’re looking for, follow the path she left behind,” Monique advises cryptically. Suddenly Elijah feels heat rising from his body (and no, it’s not self-awareness of his own sexiness) and finds names seared into his skin. (Um, Professor Umbridge forms of punishment are definitely not cool, ladies.)
